So I get an email from my buddy John the other day. Apparently, something his friend Brant said (who names their kid Brant?) got him thinking about what it is for him that makes those of us that go to home church different from traditional churchgoers. In his words, “What is the doctrinal difference that prevents us from fellowshipping in the normal manner many of us were raised in?”
The following post is his attempt at answering that question. His hope is you all will edit, improve, clarify and correct this first draft. He gives up all rights to it (I don’t however so if you turn this into a book- I want in).

I will preface this message with the note that I have not pre-meditated this post. I mean, I have thought about the various ideas I’m going to express, but I haven’t written it all down before. This is very much a first draft. I’m thinking the point of a blog is to be able to just say stuff sort of candidly- so here goes. There’s always that little comment link at the bottom if you’ve got something to say to the contrary.

Today’s churches are still based largely on the idea that most people cannot think for themselves, and should not be trusted with reading and interpreting the Bible. It seems presumptuous to write this. After all, who am I to question how the church is run? My motivation is the sights and sounds of discontentment with the current church structure and a calling to try to do something about it.
